Inspiration

Goulburn District Band 1957

The story of Brass Banding in Goulburn

Goulburn has a rich history of Brass Bands dating back to as early as 1854 when NC Phillips formed one of the first bands and performed at the Fitzroy Bridge opening. Since then numerous bands have played at major events in Goulburn; The Temperance Band (cir.1871), The Goulburn Volunteer Rifles (1869-1876), The Drum and Fife Band (cir.1876)

Since then Brass Banding has been at the heart of Goulburn with many more famous bands having their time. Most notable the Goulburn District Band led by John Cody in the 1940s and 1950s.

Lilac City Brass aims to reinvigorate the spirit of Brass Banding within the Goulburn and Mulwaree Districts.
